The Public Affairs Directorate of Ghana Police Service and Journalists in Ashanti region today had a comprehensive interaction about Police new transformation on Communication and Public Education Strategy.
According to ACP David Eklu who is the public affairs director of Ghana Police ,the New Media Communication and Public Education Strategy Policy document for 2018/2020 supported by United Nation is to highlight the various protocols a police officer and journalist should observe whenever journalists are reporting incidents involving police operations.
“So far as Ghanaians needs protection ,the Journalist needs some special protection as well as the constitution of Ghana and the job is concern ,therefore the new policy recognizes the safety of journalists when their covering police operations, so that if their reporting on police events or public order management you also know the protocols that will help to reduce the friction of misunderstanding and media attacks.”
He said the Public affairs directorate also held Sensitisation Workshop to 90 Divisional and District Police Commanders from the Ashanti region yesterday, Wednesday 6th February,2019 on the new media communication and public education strategy policy document which to be launch to be more vibrant on how to implement these policies and also how to build a better understandable cordial relationship between the police and journalists .
He added that the new media communication strategy shall not allow a journalist to cover swoop and identification parade.
Police officers too shall not allow any journalist to snap pictures of dead bodies whether to display on social media or any other medium that will abuse the person’s privacy .
ACP David Eklu has revealed that six suspected people has been arrested ,questioned and granted bill in relation to Ahmed Suale a member of Tiger PI team murder.
Adding that other three people the police believed that they have information relating to the murder has been
questioned and has been given statement forms to write their statement and submit to the police cid headquarters.
The three people includes Hon.Kennedy Agyapong,Kwasi Nyantakyi and Ana Amereyawo Ana’s.
The police is preparing to arraign these suspects before the court after their investigation is than.
Meanwhile the Ashanti regional President of Ghana Journalist Association Mr. Kingsley Hope appealed to Ghana Police Service to be more proactive in terms of dealing with situation pertaining civilians and the police service too should redeem their image through building public trust.
